How Access402 Automatically Creates Your Coinbase Wallet

Learn how Access402 creates a Coinbase wallet for your project, routes x402 payments to it automatically, and removes manual receiving-address setup.

Access402 creates a dedicated Coinbase CDP wallet for your project and automatically uses its address for payment challenges and settlement. You do not need to create a crypto wallet, copy a receiving address into WordPress, or manage a private key. Successful payments are sent to that Coinbase wallet, where you can access and manage the funds through Coinbase.

Key takeaways

  • Access402 creates the Coinbase wallet during project setup.
  • The wallet is assigned to the project automatically; customers never paste a payTo address into WordPress.
  • Access402 uses the saved project wallet for every authoritative payment challenge and settlement check.
  • Funds are currently received and managed through Coinbase; integrated cash offboarding is planned for a later release.

No wallet expertise is required

Traditional crypto payment setup often asks a merchant to create a wallet elsewhere, choose the correct network, copy a long address, and paste it into a payment tool. One wrong character, wrong account, or wrong network can route money somewhere unintended. Access402 removes that configuration step.

When you set up an Access402 project, Access402 creates a dedicated Coinbase CDP EVM wallet for it. The resulting wallet is saved to the authenticated project and becomes that project’s receiving destination automatically. You do not need to know the address to configure the WordPress adapter or publish a payment rule.

How the automatic setup works

The setup is idempotent, so retrying after an interrupted save does not intentionally create a second wallet for the same project. Once the wallet is attached, adapters need only their installation ID and scoped API key. They do not receive Coinbase credentials or ask the site owner for a payment address.

  1. You create an Access402 project and start its wallet setup.
  2. Access402 authenticates the signed-in account with Coinbase CDP.
  3. Coinbase creates the dedicated EVM wallet for that project.
  4. Access402 saves the public wallet record and attaches it to the project.
  5. Every synchronized rule inherits that project wallet as its approved payment destination.
  6. Successful Live payments settle in USDC on Base to the Coinbase wallet automatically.

Why this prevents the wrong-address problem

The receiving address shown in an x402 challenge does not come from a WordPress form or a browser request. Access402 authenticates the installation, loads the project and protection rule on the server, and inserts the Coinbase wallet already assigned to that project.

When a payment is submitted, the settlement handler loads the same server-side data again. The resource, amount, network, USDC asset, and payTo wallet must all match. A requester cannot substitute another recipient, and a publisher does not risk introducing a typo while configuring an adapter.

You do not manage a private key

Coinbase supplies the wallet infrastructure and Access402 associates its public address with the project. Access402 does not ask you to copy, paste, or store a wallet seed phrase in the dashboard or WordPress. The WordPress installation never receives a private key.

This is different from a self-hosted wallet workflow. The customer interacts with Access402 and Coinbase authentication, while Coinbase handles the underlying wallet system. Access402 uses only the project information needed to route payments correctly and display balances and activity.

How you receive and access funds today

A successful payment is not held in an Access402 merchant balance. The facilitator settles USDC on Base directly to the Coinbase wallet created for the project. Access402 records the result and transaction hash, while the funds remain available through the Coinbase wallet experience.

Today, Coinbase is the path for accessing and managing those funds. Any conversion or movement into a bank account depends on the Coinbase services available to your account and location. Access402 does not yet provide its own integrated cash payout button.

The planned experience: no visible wallet at all

Access402’s longer-term direction is integrated cash offboarding. The goal is for a publisher to connect a payout destination and receive cash without needing to understand USDC, Base, wallet addresses, or manual transfers.

That cash-offboarding experience is planned, not currently available. Until it ships, Access402 still removes wallet creation and payment-routing work, while Coinbase provides the place where the settled funds are managed.
