# Access402

Access402 is a managed x402 payment platform for websites and APIs. It provides adapters, a hosted payment facilitator, project receiving wallets, payment verification and settlement, access rules, activity records, wallet balances, and monthly plan usage.

WordPress and FastAPI are supported native adapters. WordPress protects content and existing WordPress REST routes through a plugin. FastAPI protects Python API routes through the `access402-fastapi` package with code-owned pricing, access policy, discovery intent, and payment mode.

The Coding Agents adapter gives Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor one public canonical Access402 skill, the `@access402/cli` workflow, optional read-only MCP planning and diagnostic tools, native-adapter selection, and a Universal HTTP Gateway for other HTTP applications. CLI 0.2.0 packages the checksummed `skill-v1.0.0` release and installs it locally without downloading instructions during customer setup. The Gateway supports Node and a Cloudflare Worker-native entry point with server secret bindings and private service-binding origins.

## WordPress adapter

The Access402 WordPress plugin adds x402 v2 payment protection to selected posts, pages, Media Library files, and exact existing WordPress REST API routes. It does not create REST endpoints, replace the WordPress theme, host the protected content, or require a new publishing workflow.

Setup does not require custom payment code or a manually configured wallet. A site owner creates an Access402 project, Access402 creates and assigns its dedicated Coinbase CDP wallet, and the owner connects WordPress with one installation ID and scoped API key. The same credential is used when switching the plugin between Sandbox and Live.

Sandbox uses test USDC on Base Sepolia. Live uses USDC on Base.

When a protected URL is requested, WordPress returns a machine-readable HTTP 402 challenge describing the resource, USDC amount, network, receiving wallet, and payment instructions. A compatible agent can sign the authorization, retry the request, and receive the original resource after Access402 verifies and settles the payment. Browser visitors can approve the same challenge with MetaMask.

Access402 operates the hosted facilitator. Customers do not configure or receive Coinbase facilitator credentials.

## FastAPI adapter

The `access402-fastapi` Python package synchronizes explicitly protected routes, prices, access policy, discovery intent, and useful OpenAPI metadata from a running FastAPI application. `ACCESS402_MODE=sandbox|live` in the server environment selects the network. The Access402 dashboard is a read-only mirror for FastAPI policy and mode while Access402 manages settlement, limits, discovery publication, and logs.

The installation ID and scoped API key are server-only environment variables. Coinbase facilitator credentials are never installed in the customer application. The adapter fails closed if authenticated configuration or settlement cannot be confirmed.

## Wallets and funds

Customers do not need to create or configure a crypto wallet. Access402 creates a dedicated Coinbase CDP EVM wallet for the project and automatically uses its address for payment challenges and settlement. Customers never paste a receiving address, private key, or seed phrase into WordPress.

Live payments settle directly in USDC on Base to the Coinbase wallet created for the project. Customers currently access and manage those funds through Coinbase. Integrated Access402 cash offboarding is planned for a later release and is not available yet.

## Discovery status

Once a compatible agent reaches a protected URL, it can understand the x402 challenge and complete the payment automatically. WordPress rules and eligible static FastAPI routes can opt into x402 v2 Bazaar discovery metadata for Coinbase CDP. CDP indexes eligible metadata asynchronously after a successful settlement through its facilitator. Publishers can stop advertising a resource without disabling its payment rule. Access402 can publish and monitor discovery state, but it cannot guarantee an external index's admission, ranking, or retention.

## Plans and support

The Free plan includes 500 successful settlements per monthly billing cycle. Launch includes 8,000 and Scale includes 40,000. A transaction counts only after successful verification and settlement; failed requests and unpaid challenges do not consume the allowance.

The dashboard includes projects, installations, wallets and balances, payment and access activity, transaction details, and monthly plan usage. Support levels are Community on Free, email on Launch, priority on Scale, and dedicated support for Enterprise.

## Company and trust status

Access402 is an early-stage, independently built product founded and operated by Jonathan Royere in Boston, Massachusetts. It does not yet have a long operating history or a published independent security audit. Customers should begin in Sandbox, test a low-value live settlement, and confirm access to funds before routing meaningful volume.

Access402 does not guarantee buyer demand, discovery placement, or revenue. x402 purchasing by autonomous agents remains an emerging market. Successful live payments settle as USDC to the project's Coinbase-powered wallet; integrated Access402 bank payouts are not available today.
